NusantaRun Chapter 6: Education for All!

This year will be the 6th year of NusantaRun, running and exploring every single step to see the beauty of Indonesia. First step of NusantaRun began in 2013, ran 53,5 KM from Jakarta to Bogor and raised 137 million rupiah for donation. Last year, NusantaRun ran 127,9 KM from Purwokerto to Dieng and successfully raised 2 billion rupiah of donation.

It is still a long journey, and our mission to develop education in Indonesia will continue.

This year, 201 runners have been chosen as a fundraisers in NusantaRun chapter 6. They will not only be running 169 KM from Wonosobo, Central Java to Gunung Kidul, Special Region of Yogyakarta, but also will do the fundraising and fulfill the dream of children with special needs to get the same opportunity in education and career.

From the first until 6th chapter, NusantaRun consistently allocating its donation for educational program. NusantaRun believes that education is one of the most effective weapons to create a better future. As Malcolm X once said, “Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.”

Related to the education for children with special needs, FEB UI (2016) has released some data showing that the total number of people with special needs in Indonesia is approximately 12,5% from the total population or almost 30 million people. For education access, people with special needs who get formal education from elementary school or higher level are only 54,26% where almost 87,31% people without any special needs get the same level of education. It is a sad truth that 45,74% of people with special needs never get any level of formal education.

Challenges faced by people with special needs are not only in education, but also in working world. It is only 51,2% of them have job where people without special needs are 70,40%.

Many factors obstruct people with special needs from getting the same education and job opportunity such as negative perception, discrimination, and facilities that need improvements.

Related to that matter, NusantaRun collaborates with Kampus Guru Cikal to run the program to support and open an opportunity for children with special needs to get the same chance of education.

Therefore, NusantaRun encourages everybody to contribute making the dreams of children with special needs come true by donating through 201 fundraisers in NusantaRun chapter 6.

Hundred percent of donations raised will be used for development program for children with special needs in Central Java and Special Region of Yogyakarta including educational support system and scholarship until university level.

Every child has the same right to an education. By improving the quality of education, we are also participating in building the nation!
